Old Tbilisi

Trinity Church in Gergeti

This temple was built high in the mountains in the XIV century on the site of a pagan temple. Today in the walls of the temple you can find an ancient idol of silver, made in the form of a ram.

Narikala Fortress

The construction has been located in Tbilisi almost from the day the city was founded. Locals call it the "soul" of the city. The construction of the fortress lasted more than one century, and Arabs and Mongols participated in it. Located on the Great Silk Road, the fortress for a very long time served as a defensive point. In 1827, an earthquake occurred here, as a result of which the structure was partially destroyed. Today it is not fully restored.

Ananuri Fortress

Fortress is located 64 km from Tbilisi, which was destined to witness many wars, whetted here between the feudal lords. Nevertheless, to this day Ananuri is quite well preserved. And every tourist can see not only its walls and towers, but also how the interior of the fortress looked many centuries ago.

Jvari Monastery

Above the city of Mtskheta rises the current monastery of Jvari. Mention of him can be found in the poem "Mtsyri" written by Lermontov. Therefore, a monument to the great poet was erected next to the church. Like many other religious buildings in Georgia, Jvari was built on a cliff top. This is due to the fact that it used to be believed that before getting to a holy place, a person should work hard.

Gelati Monastery

The monastery was founded in the XII century by King David IV and subsequently became its tomb. This building is considered a medieval monastery and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Gelati Academy used to work here, in which they studied Greek philosophy.

Alaverdi Cathedral

The cathedral is located in the village of the same name and is the shrine of Kakheti. It was built in the XI century and became the highest construction of the region at that time. Over its history, Alaverdi was destroyed many times by various conquerors, but each time the local population completely restored it. The building was first restored in the 15th century. And today on its walls you can see fragments of medieval painting. The cathedral includes a fortress wall, a palace, a bell tower and a refectory.

Betania Monastery

The monastery is called one of the best examples of the entire temple architecture of the country. Its construction was initiated by Queen Tamara. Here she loved to stay for relaxing while traveling in Georgia.On the walls of the monastery frescoes are perfectly preserved, which depict the royal family, altar paintings from psalms and bible verses, as well as icons on which scenes from the Bible are painted.

Tsminda Sameba

The cathedral is called the symbol of "renewed Georgia." The building was built in 2004. And during its construction, all the traditions of temple architecture that have developed over many centuries have been observed. The money for the construction of the cathedral was allocated by rich Georgians and ordinary citizens. Sameba's area is over 5,000 square meters, and up to 15 thousand people can simultaneously fit in its walls. The building is constructed in such a way that can withstand any earthquake.

Wardzia

The construction of the cave city was carried out by George III. In total, Vardzia has 15 temples and a monastery in which ancient frescoes are preserved, which depict the Virgin, various Christian saints, George III and Queen Tamara.

Uplistsikhe

This cave city is considered to be almost the first settlement on the territory of Georgia, which was founded here in the II century BC. Throughout its history, it has experienced more than one rise and fall. And in the XIX century the last inhabitants left it. In its heyday, there were 700 caves, where there was housing for the local population and administrative buildings. Many of them are perfectly preserved to this day.

Svan towers

The attraction is located on the Caucasus Range in Svaneti. Initially, the towers were not intended for defense, since at that time there were no wars. Therefore, there is an opinion that they were built to intimidate potential enemies and were used to store various provisions.

Batumi Fountains

In the center of Batumi, singing fountains were erected, which became one of the most striking attractions of the resort city. Watching a laser show, tourists can see not only overflows of light, but also learn the history of Georgia in sounds and colors.

Rustaveli Avenue

The avenue is not only the central street of the capital, but also its “face”. Here are located state buildings, residences, ministries and other institutions that play an important role in the political life of the country. In addition, hotels, cafes and shops are open here.

Peace Bridge

The bridge across the Kura River, located in Tbilisi, has become a symbol of the unification of the past and the future. Its discovery took place on the feast of St. George in 2010.
