How to start learning English?
English is international, so more and more people are eager to learn it. At the same time, people who first encountered the study of a foreign language are able to get confused in the abundance of information, textbooks and a variety of techniques. How can I independently organize the educational process and support my own motivation?
How to start learning English yourself
Before you start learning English, you should choose a method of learning: learn the language yourself, in a group or with a tutor. If you have never encountered English, then the best way to learn it will be a lesson with a teacher. He can not only lay the foundation of knowledge for you, but also help with the correct pronunciation. Pursuing a teacher, you can:
- learn to speak correctly;
- learn to read in English;
- can perceive English speech;
- master the grammar.
But sometimes the situation may develop in such a way that you will not have the opportunity to engage with a teacher. In such cases, you can search for techniques that involve learning a foreign language on your own.
Of course, the language is best remembered in the natural environment, but if there is no way to go to an English-speaking country, you can surround yourself with all English at home. To do this, you need:
- learn new words or phrases every day;
- to disassemble each studied phrase into parts, write and pronounce it, make sentences with it, etc.
- surround yourself with your tongue (record English songs on the player and listen to them constantly, this will allow you to catch familiar words first, and later whole phrases);
- find a movie in English that will be accompanied by subtitles, so you can peep if any phrases are not clear to you;
- download the e-book in English (ideally, if it is accompanied by a dictionary and voice function, which will additionally allow you to practice the correct pronunciation);
- Take advantage of the opportunity to learn on Skype. On the Internet you can find a large number of offers from tutors, with whom you can arrange classes at a convenient time for you. Such lessons are based on an individual approach and contain interesting interactive tasks.
How to start learning English from scratch
So that the time spent on learning English is not wasted, you should learn a few recommendations on the organization of the educational process:
- It is important to allocate for classes at least 1 hour 2-3 times a week. Of course, it is ideal if classes become daily, but not everyone is able to afford it. In addition, weekends from classes are also important.
- It is necessary to regularly work on communication skills. To do this, listen to English, read articles, write small texts, try to find an interlocutor.
- After studying new material, it should be put into practice. Write or speak English using various grammatical constructions. If knowledge is not immediately fixed, then they will be quickly forgotten. Having learned new words, you should pronounce them or make small sentences with them. Having studied some time, make a short story in which all the proposals used will be at that time.
- Do not try to cover a large amount of material immediately. You may get confusion, which will be another obstacle to the quality of learning English.
- Repeat the learned material regularly. It may seem to you that you have learned everything very well, but do not be lazy and repeat it several more times, but not immediately, return to this material after a few weeks. Repetition will never be superfluous.
- When choosing a task, you need to focus on your level, otherwise disappointments can not be avoided.
Important aspects
First of all, you need to learn the alphabet and pronunciation of words. After all, without this, you will not be able to read or write, and incorrect pronunciation can change the meaning of what was said. Ideally, if among your friends there are those who speak English well. Together, you can practice pronunciation. Indeed, in order to speak fluently, you need to practice as much as possible. What else you need to pay attention to:
- Reading. By reading simple texts, you can automatically memorize grammatical constructions and vocabulary.
- Listening Reading a text that is accompanied by sound, you can simultaneously remember how a particular word is written and pronounced. You can maintain your “tone” by listening to songs in English or watching movies with subtitles.
- Letter. Of course, computer programs in which you are prompted to simply insert the necessary letters in the words are convenient, however, if you are determined to master a new foreign language, it is important to constantly work out the material you have learned.
- Speaking An integral practice should be spoken language. After all, the ability to read and perceive words by ear does not mean that you can speak fluently. If you don’t have a suitable person, train with yourself. Retelling of what has been read or heard is of great help in this.
- Vocabulary. Particular attention in the study of new words needs to be paid both to the meaning, but also to their pronunciation. Transcription can help.
- Grammar. Knowing the basic rules of grammar is just as important as proper pronunciation and a large vocabulary. First, learn the rules for constructing sentences. After that, you can move on to Simple / Indefinite times. Once you have mastered them, you can begin to study Contineous / Progressive and Perfect.
It is worth noting that self-study of English has a huge minus. It is the lack of control. After all, you yourself can not notice the errors and correct them in time. And incorrectly memorized material is very difficult to adjust. Therefore, at least at the very beginning, it is better to find a teacher who can guide you along the right path.
