Holidays in Russian schools 2017/2018 academic year

What do modern schoolchildren like most? Of course, this is a vacation. It is they who they always look forward to, and their parents try in advance to organize their leisure time for this period. Therefore, it is customary to learn about the date of their start literally from September 1.

It is important to know that the vacation schedule is rather advisory in nature. This means that employees of the Ministry of Education can only recommend indicative dates when the educational process will be started and completed. And the exact dates are set by a general order for a particular educational institution. Therefore, there are times when this period may not coincide in different schools.

The only rule common to all educational institutions is that the start of the holidays should fall on Monday, and this period may differ from the recommended by the Ministry of Education by no more than 2 weeks.

Quarterly Schools

Education in Russian schools takes place in quarters and semesters. Depending on this, the start and end dates of the holidays may vary slightly. Consider the graph on the example of a school, the educational process in which is carried out in quarters.

In this case, the date of the autumn holidays will be affected by the Day of National Unity. Due to the fact that on November 4, 2017 falls on Saturday, the day off is postponed to next Monday. Thus, in the fall, children will rest from October 30 to November 6 inclusive.

Winter holidays traditionally coincide with the New Year holidays. That is, their beginning falls at the end of December. And the first working day falls approximately on January 9-10. This year, the first day of the winter holidays for all students will be December 25, and they will be home until January 9.

First graders who are still adapting at the school are provided for additional vacations. Therefore, they will rest in February. Presumably from February 5 to February 11.

As for spring breaks, they usually begin in late March or early April. Since there are no holidays at this time, the rest time from study is determined by the weekend. In 2018, officials offer schoolchildren a break from March 26 to April 2.

Summer holidays will begin with the beginning of the calendar summer, that is, June 1 and will last exactly 3 months.

Trimester schools

For educational institutions in which the educational process is built on the semester system, there is such a rule - every 5 (less than 6) weeks of study, 1 week of vacation follows. An exception in this case will be winter holidays. They usually completely coincide with the rest of schools that provide training in quarters.

Possible deviations

When communicating with peers from different regions of Russia, it can be noted that their vacation period may not coincide. In connection with this, because the educational process is controlled by one ministry?

It turns out that the time of the educational process in different schools may vary. The management of some is preferred to follow the recommendations prepared by the officials. Others, on the contrary, may be slightly behind the approved schedule, which may be a consequence of force majeure.

Various factors can affect this. For example, if we talk about Siberia, here schoolchildren can be left at home due to weather conditions (severe frosts, etc.). With a significant drop in temperature, squalling winds, blizzards, etc. The Municipal Department responsible for education in the region may decide on unplanned vacations for students. Depending on weather conditions, absolutely all children or only primary school students can be exempted from school attendance.

In some regions of the country, periodically, school classes are canceled due to floods or floods. Of course, such situations are force majeure, which does not depend on educational institutions.

In the event that such force majeure situations do not occur often and students missed no more than 5 school days, they have the opportunity to draw up the learning process in such a way as to keep up with the curriculum. In this case, these circumstances will not affect the approved vacation schedule for children.

However, if there were too many such unforeseen passes (more than 5-7 school days), then the administration of the educational institution has no choice but to shorten the time of vacations or to transfer them to another period. It was the possibility of force majeure situations that became the reason that officials can only give recommendations regarding rest time for schoolchildren, and the specific dates for the start and end of the holidays are determined by the administration of a particular educational institution.

Extra vacation

Sometimes situations arise when the administration of an educational institution is forced to introduce additional vacations. Despite the fact that students always welcome such decisions, their reasons are usually not positive.

To move the time of planned vacations or introduce additional ones, the institution may in such cases:

• adverse weather conditions in the region (severe frost: for elementary school, classes are canceled if the thermometer drops below -25 degrees, for the middle - below -28 degrees and for high school below -30 degrees);
• low temperature in classrooms (if the temperature in the school does not exceed +18 degrees);
• the region has exceeded the epidemiological threshold for any disease.

Whether to wait for innovations

Today, the question of returning to the old system, when school holidays were in the same period throughout the country, is increasingly being discussed. In this case, it is convenient to hold various olympiads, educational contests, conventions of schoolchildren and other events for students. Especially for this, in many regions even surveys were conducted among parents of schoolchildren. They were asked to decide whether to leave everything as it is today, divide the school year into 5 equal periods with holidays between them, or switch to a semester system, while making the holidays between them longer.

As a result, neither parents nor officials could come to a consensus. At the same time, the administrations of educational institutions assure that it is much easier for them with the current system, in which they are able to independently determine the start and end dates of the educational process in their institutions. Therefore, any innovations in the near future should not be expected.
