2018 Mercedes AMG GT review

The double sports car of the German company was born in 2015 and is produced by a special division of AMG, which is engaged in the production of sports versions of Mercedes with powerful engines. At the moment, buyers are offered two body styles: a roadster and a coupe.

The main advantages of the car, which were noted by its customers:

  • incredibly high power;
  • original sports design;
  • high level of security;
  • prestige;
  • rich equipment.

At the end of last year, at a motor show in the French capital, the German concern introduced two new Mercedes versions of the 2018 AMG GT version, which will be produced in the back of a roadster:

  • Mercedes AMG GT Roadster.
  • GT C Roadster.

An updated version of this roadster should appear due to the fact that the car of the previous model is in constant great demand, which means it needs to be supported and possibly even increased due to the two novelties presented in Paris. Thanks to the advent of new products, the concern will increase the number of sales, and the family of sports cars will increase to 4 cars.

2018 Sport Roadster Exterior

Both new items received the same design, the main difference will be in technical equipment, which will differ significantly from each other.

First of all, the developers and designers of the company took up the development and creation of the original sporty look of the model with a swift way. From the photographs, you can immediately notice that the car received an updated front bumper with improved aerodynamics, which received 15 vertical lines of chrome type. The air intakes integrated into the bumper received large openings.

In addition, there are a number of distinctive nuances that betray a sports image to a car:

  • short overhangs of the body;
  • carbon fiber large front wings;
  • elongated hood;
  • design performance of LED optics;
  • large angle of the windshield;
  • threshold overlays with aerodynamic elements;
  • high-speed spoiler;
  • aerodynamic rear view mirrors;
  • large aluminum wheels;
  • wide wheel arches;
  • chrome trim for exhaust pipe diffusers;
  • dark rear bumper with integrated exhaust pipes.

It should also be noted that the soft roof of the car offers variations of light performance: white, red and black. The body itself also received a special color, which is exclusive and is aimed at emphasizing the sports style of the car - Green Hell.

The external image of the car is immediately emphasized by the original sports seats of a special form with pronounced lateral support and carefully thought-out seat belts for the driver and his passenger. Immediately behind the seats there are special safety arches that are necessary for roadsters. The steering wheel has a multifunctional design, as well as special perforations that provide maximum driver contact with the steering wheel for complete control of the car while driving.

For the upholstery, genuine leather, microfiber, carbon and polished aluminum were used. The roof of the car is made in a three-layer fabric version, this allows you to keep a comfortable temperature level inside the roadster. The seats received many adjustments and settings, including heating and ventilation, which allows passengers to feel comfortable. In addition, the car is equipped with a special air space heating system in the upper part of the passenger compartment.

The dashboard of the sports car received two large scales of a tachometer and speedometer, between which a small monitor of a multifunctional on-board computer is installed.The center console has an 8.4-inch touchscreen multimedia system with voice control. The lower tunnel received an interesting exterior design, it is wide enough, and the control keys and the aluminum trim of some elements are organically arranged on it.

The interior of the roadster was carefully thought out, the fit of all the elements is ideal, which is typical for German cars. In general, it is worth noting that each element of the interior emphasizes a sporty style and creates the feeling that you are sitting not in a car, but in the cockpit of a jet plane.

Technical specifications

The dimensions of the car of both versions remained unchanged, the only parameter that was increased is the width of the roadster. In general, the dimensions of the new items are as follows:

  • length - 4550 mm;
  • width - 1940 mm (46 mm more than its predecessor)
  • height - 1290 mm;
  • wheelbase - 2630 mm.

For the technical equipment of the sports car, there are two power units, one for each modification of the 2018 model:

  • petrol V8, volume 4 liters, power - 476 horses;
  • 4-liter V8 forced type with a capacity of 557 horsepower.

The only transmission option provided is a 7-speed automatic transmission with mechanical rear differential lock.

2018 German sports car received rear-wheel drive, independent suspension and ventilated disc brakes. For an additional fee, the driver will be able to get the option - carbon brakes. The car will be equipped with 19 and 20-inch wheels, smaller ones are installed in the front, and wider in the rear to create a forward-looking view.

Cost and start of sales

Car sales started in North America in the summer of 2017, the cost of the basic configuration is 132 thousand dollars. In Europe, sales are expected in the fall, the minimum price has stopped at around 123 thousand euros, but for the maximum version of 2018-2019 Mercedes AMG GR will have to pay about 180 thousand euros.

It is worth noting that this car will appear on the territory of the Russian Federation, but it will not be earlier than January 2018. The cost of an ordinary roadster in the basic configuration is 8.6 million rubles, the version with a forced engine is 9 million. If you take the full package of additional options, you will have to pay almost 12.5 million rubles.
