2018 Subaru Outback Review

Subaru Outback is a four-wheel drive SUV from Japan, which is a variation of the Legacy station wagon. For the first time the car was presented as an independent model back in 96 of the last century, at the moment it is a 5-seater crossover, which has increased cross-country ability.

An obvious change in front of the car was the new headlights, which received C-shaped LED running lights. A full LED set of the main optics is possible only as an option for an additional fee. Both bumpers of the car were significantly updated, roof rails received a fundamentally new design. Side rear-view mirrors received a new design, which aims to improve aerodynamics. In addition, it should be noted that the concern was able to achieve noise reduction inside the car and better sound insulation in general.

The profile of the car is characterized by smooth lines and transitions, soft outlines of the body, however, the powerful 18-inch wheels hide the wheel arches. The whole body is edged with a black plastic body kit, which characterizes the car as an SUV that can overcome difficulties.

The rear of the car looks very elegant and harmonious due to the narrow rear window and an enlarged tailgate. Despite this change, manufacturers are assuring that visibility has remained the same, as the bottom line of the glass has dropped slightly. The rear crossover struts are now not so wide, and the original spoiler with an integrated additional brake light completes the interesting image of an SUV.

The dimensions of the car remained the same:

• length - 4820 mm;
• width - 1840 mm;
• height - 1680 mm;
• distance between axles - 2740 mm;
• clearance - 213 mm.

Updated interior

Inside, the changes are also small, the main emphasis is on the use of modern technical devices. Updates:

• blue lights inside the cabin;
• increased front armrests;
• wood and aluminum styling pads;
• multi-function steering wheel received a new appearance;
• the rear row of seats received the option to adjust the angle of the backrest.

The design of each of the interior elements was competently thought out by designers and developers who provided comfort while driving and its functionality. Directly in front of the driver is a dashboard with the usual jackets of a speedometer and tachometer, between which a special LCD screen of the on-board computer is installed. The display shows all the necessary information, the center console, in turn, received an integrated 7-inch touch screen multimedia complex with intuitive navigation. The screen has anti-glare properties, which guarantees comfortable work with it, in addition there is an option for voice control, which will be available for an additional fee.

The tailgates received an electric drive, which frees up the driver’s hands for loading and unloading bulky items.Trunk volume is 500 liters, but if the rear seats are folded in the proportion of 3/2, then the useful luggage volume will increase to 1080 liters.

Technical specifications

The SUV originally from Japan is equipped with one of two gasoline power units with the following parameters:

• volume - 2.5 liters, power - 175 horses;
• volume of 3.6 liters with a capacity of 260 horsepower.

The transmission is a stepless variator, it is worth noting that this is a completely new generation - Lineartronic.

Due to the fact that a horizontal boxer motor is used, the company has achieved increased stability and controllability due to its low center of gravity. In addition, the concern has achieved a reduced level of vibration, which guarantees a long service life of the car.

Start of sales

Initially, the SUV will be sold in North America. Sales began in the summer of this year, the cost of the basic configuration is 26 thousand dollars.

In the Russian Federation, sales were also open. Starting price stopped at around 1.7 million rubles, for the top version will have to pay more than two and a half million rubles.
