Job interview. How to get through it?
Everyone in their life is interviewed for a job. This is a natural process and can not do without an interview. The employer must understand who he is hiring, and the employee must be aware of where and in what conditions he will have to work daily. An interview with the employer is an exciting process, so you need to mentally simulate how to behave, how to look, how to answer the questions posed.
Telephone conversation
The employer's first impression of the applicant will be from the first telephone conversation. Therefore, you need to be prepared for this conversation always. If the telephone conversation takes place with the secretary, he will in any case give his supervisor a first impression.
During the conversation you need to thoroughly find out everything about the vacant position. If this vacancy does not initially suit you, you must immediately politely inform about it - no need to waste the time of the employer and your own. During the conversation, it is necessary to record information - what is the name of the employer or interlocutor, the name of the company or organization, as well as the contact phone number. During the conversation, it is advisable to clarify the exact address of the interview, who will talk with you, write down his name. It will be great if you meet him by name and patronymic.
It may happen that during the day 2 or more interviews will be required. In this case, it is necessary to plan the time so that the gap between them is at least 2 hours. After all, an interview is not a two-minute conversation, but you may have to take tests, fill out a questionnaire, and complete a practical task.
Training
After a telephone conversation, everything is already known about the date and place of the meeting with the employer. It is necessary to prepare the documents that will be required during the interview:
- passport;
- summary;
- diploma of education;
- certificates, certificates of completion of courses.
You should not take with you documents that have nothing to do with the job title.
Be sure to familiarize yourself with the information about the organization. It is necessary to find out as much information as possible: history, directions of activity, stages of development, achievements, etc. Possession of this information will allow the employer to demonstrate seriousness of intent during a conversation.
After this, you should plan the route of the trip in such a way that possible traffic jams, delays in transport are taken into account. It’s best to arrive at the place 30 minutes earlier. This time will allow you to see the upcoming work place from the outside, think it over again, and most importantly calm down and focus.
During the conversation questions will be asked. We need to mentally ponder the questions that can be asked and prepare answers to them. Questions may be of the following nature:
- why do you want to leave your current place of work; why did you leave your last job?
- why did you decide to work in our organization?
- What are your weaknesses and weaknesses?
- Tell us about your achievements in the previous place of work, what were the mistakes?
It is necessary to tune in to give only truthful answers, because a lie - it will certainly come to light. The question about the reason for the change of work should be answered in a neutral way: remoteness of work from home, delayed pay, uncomfortable work schedule, lack of opportunities for professional growth. But in no case do you need to talk about how bad the colleagues were, headed by the leader.
When answering questions about shortcomings and achievements, caution and sufficient self-criticism must be exercised. When answering a question about mistakes, you don’t need to remember the biggest ones.It is enough to give a simple example, showing the interlocutor that the conclusions are drawn, and this situation added only experience.
In turn, it is necessary to prepare counter questions. It’s better to find out everything at once and not think later - why didn’t I immediately ask ... You should find out for what reason the previous employee quit, what working conditions, the amount of wages.
For an interview you need to go neatly dressed. After all, they are always met by clothes. Therefore, the first impression should be only positive. This applies to hair, hands, nails, shoes. The overall impression is made up of little things. There should be nothing in the hands. No need to bring a backpack, bag or shopping bag.
Interviewing
So this moment has come, on which the future fate may depend. It is better to arrive at the reception 5-10 minutes earlier than to be late for 1 minute. If you are late even for a few seconds, the outcome is clear. The chances of getting the desired job are greatly reduced automatically. If a really unforeseen circumstance happened, it is better to call in advance, explain and possibly reschedule the meeting, even the next day.
When entering the office, you must definitely say hello and turn off your mobile phone in advance. At the interview, contact by name the patronymic to the person who will conduct the conversation. It does not hurt to smile slightly and say that this invitation to the organization is very nice. From the first seconds you should arrange the interlocutor.
You should sit on a chair after an invitation. Sit should be level, do not fall apart, do not cross legs, do not squeeze, arms are open. That is, the view should be calm, confident, not closed. Questions must be listened carefully, looking into the eyes of the interlocutor. If the question is not clear - you need to clarify it, after apologizing. You cannot ask each question again. Answers to questions should not be longer than 2-3 minutes. They should be clear, conveying important information to the interlocutor. The voice is even and not quiet.
When answering a question, tell about yourself, briefly outline the education, emphasize work experience, professional skills and qualities. Do not go into the details of childhood and the entire autobiography.
When the opportunity arises or the interlocutor himself informs about this, you can ask prepared and interesting questions. Perhaps some of them will arise during the conversation. The question about career opportunities needs to be asked correctly, especially since it is difficult for an employer to answer it without knowing the candidate’s true skills and abilities. It should be asked whether refresher courses are held, the possibility of raising additional education. The employer must understand that the candidate is a focused, serious person and is interested in this work.
Some misses during the interview will be forgiven thanks to an open smile and a slight, unobtrusive humor. A smile during a business conversation does not interfere, but on the contrary, speaks of the person’s experience and self-confidence.
At the end of the interview, you must say goodbye and thank the employee for the opportunity to interview in this organization, regardless of the choice made by the employer.
Good luck at the interview!
